Final Stats

BALTIMORE, Md. - Junior Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, Md.) returned to his hometown and lead the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team in scoring with 11 points but Morgan State proved to be too much as the Hawks fell, 71-54, at Hill Field House Monday evening.

In 15 minutes of play, Bradshaw went 4-for-7 from the field, 3-for-4 from the charity stripe and recorded one steal.

Redshirt junior Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) tallied ten points and eight rebounds with two blocks and one assist in 30 minutes of play for UMES.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead that led the frustrated Bears to use a timeout just five minutes into the ballgame.

UMES then took a six-point lead at 13-7 with two consecutive 3-pointers from freshman Louis Bell (Washington, D.C.) with 10:56 on the clock.

MSU would eventually take a four-point lead before the Hawks came back with a trey from redshirt sophomore Mark Robertson (Lakewood, N.J.) to make things 21-20 with 2:14 left in the first half. The Bears then went on a 5-0 run to close out the half.

UMES struggled for the majority of the second half and was down by 21 points before four straight MSU turnovers equated into an 8-0 run with under three minutes remaining with baskets from senior RJ Tucker (Arnold, Md.), freshman Joseph Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.), redshirt senior Tim Burns (Franklinville, N.J.) and free throws from Bradshaw.

It was too little too late for the Hawks as that was as close as they would get in the final minutes.

The Bears were led in scoring by DeWayne Jackson's 16 points. Kevin Thompson recorded a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss puts UMES at 6-21 overall and 3-11 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference while the MSU improves to 13-10 overall and 8-3 in league play.

The Hawks return home on Saturday, Feb. 26 and host the Howard Bison at 4 p.m. for UMES' Homecoming game.
