Final Stats

HAMPTON, Virginia -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore fell behind early, but rebounded to take a second-half lead against Hampton University, Wednesday (Feb. 1) at the HU Convocation Center. But a last-second shot by Logan McIntosh rattled off the rim and the Pirates pulled out a 66-65 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory.

The Hawks (7-16, 4-4 MEAC) led as late as 65-64 with 32.8 seconds left when McIntoshs floater found the net. Hampton (8-13, 5-3 MEAC) took the lead, 66-65 on a 15-foot jumper with 20.7 left and the Hawks got two chances at the lead.

Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) was charged with an offensive foul with 17.2 seconds left, but Thomas Rivera was pushed off on the inbound pass and the Hawks got another attempt. A miss gave Hampton the rebound and The Shore fouled.

After a pair of missed Hampton free throws with 5.5 left, the Hawks got a last-ditch effort, but came up short.

Copeland finished with a team-high 17 points, five rebounds an assist and a steal.

Sophomore Isaac Taylor (Wachapreague, Virginia) had a career best 15 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes.

McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) chipped in 11 points.

Freshman guard Jermaine Marrow led the Pirates with 20 points.

The Shore forced 10 first-half turnovers and coughed it up just four times, but turned it over 10 times in the second half. Hawk did a good job getting to the line but converted just 12-of-23 free throws.

The Pirates outrebounded the Hawks 43-30 and the bench outscored the Eastern Shore reserves 18-5.

The Hawks will next host Coppin State on Saturday (Feb. 4) in a game that has been pushed back from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Games can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 960 AM WTGM or on www.EasternShoreHawks.com. Will DeBoer will have the call Wednesday from Hampton on The Shore Sports Network.
