Durham, N.C. -- Tyler Hines finished with a team-high 13 points for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Monday night. The Hawks struggled from the floor, allowing North Carolina Central to capture a 77-46 win over its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent. UMES scored an equal amount of points as the Aggies in the second half.

The Hawks won the rebound battled 35-31, and posted 34 second-half points, equal to that of North Carolina Central. As well, UMES posted 26 points in the paint compared to Central's 18 points. Considering UMES had three more offensive rebounds (17-14) than the Aggies, the Hawks were able to score 13 second chance points.

Hines scored all his points in the second half while playing with four fouls. Hines grabbed six rebounds while shooting 5-of-5 (1.000) from the field. He was an impressive 3-of-4 (.750) from the free-throw line.

Hillary Haley posted a double-double performance with 11 points and 11 rebounds for UMES. Haley struggled shooting from the floor early in the game, but consecutive baskets put Haley in a rhythm that started to put points on the boards.

Haley hit the team's only three-point basket of the 16 total attempts it took. As a team, UMES shot just 20 percent in the first half, but a 41.7 percent (10-of-24) shooting second half helped improve its overall percentage.

UMES had its best night from the free-throw line making 15-of-19 (.789) for the night. The Hawks will look to regain its composure when it returns to the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center to face Howard (Feb. 4) in Princess Anne.
