PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team opens up its 2013-14 preseason schedule tomorrow, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m., with a game against Salem Community College (N.J.) at Hawk Stadium. Head Coach Pedro Swann has scheduled the game for 14 innings and plans on using the live action to solidify his roster.  This is UMES’ first ever preseason meeting with Salem.

The Hawks return 21 student-athletes from a year ago, including 2013 All-MEAC Second Team honoree Joshua James. UMES has several players coming off stellar summer campaigns as junior Tim Gray (Dover, Del.) and senior Jeffrey Fleetwood (Delmar, Del.) were each named to the All-Star team of their respective leagues. Senior Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) and Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) continue to don the maroon and gray after solid junior campaigns.

UMES returns almost 70-percent of their innings and all but two wins from last season’s pitching staff. The top-3 starters are back as sophomores Will Turley (Greensboro, Md.) and J.P. Black (Elkton, Md.) and junior Jordan Bone (Pottstown, Pa.) return.

The team has also brought on a solid set of newcomers to the 2013-14 squad. Freshman Skylar Murray (Georgetown, Del.) and Jesse Stinnett (Madison Heights, Va.) look to continue their impressive fall with their first set of live action tomorrow.

The pitching staff will start with Stinnett on Saturday and he will be followed by junior Devin Repine (Salisbury, Md,), Black and senior Bernard Parker (Waldorf, Md.).
