PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The 2013 UMES season has concluded, but baseball is far from over for some Hawks. 14 UMES players will be playing collegiate wooden-bat baseball this summer, playing in areas around the country.

Unlike in the NCAA, where student-athletes use aluminum bats, wooden bats are used in these collegiate leagues, mirroring the style of the professional ranks. This style of play is different for both position players and pitchers.

Last season, three Hawks, Byron Campbell, Zachary Saca and Brandon Schott earned All-Star honors in their respective leagues. In addition, Tre-von Johnson helped the Columbia Blowfish win the championship in the Coastal Plain League.

Keep an eye on the Hawks as they compete this summer to be ready for 2014:
