NORFOLK, Virginia Maryland Eastern Shore junior Dominic DeBlasie (Tilton, New Hampshire) was named to the All-MEAC Baseball Team as a catcher. DeBlasie earned a spot on the Second Team, which was announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tuesday (May 15).

In his second full season on The Shore, DeBlasie led the Hawks in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and doubles for the season. Over 47 games with 44 starts he amassed a .301 average with two home runs and 19 RBI’s.

Against the MEAC his average increased to .315, aided by a nine game hitting streak from April 10 to April 22, and a six game streak from March 24 to March 30.

DeBlasie combined ten extra base hits—eight doubles and two home runs—to lead the Hawks this season. These numbers, combined with 22 walks, earned him an OPS of .810, which also led the team. With runners on, he proved clutch, increasing his average to .359 with runners in scoring position.

On defense he was second in the MEAC for throwing runners out, with 24 opponents mowed down on his watch.

This is the first all-conference honor for DeBlasie as a member of the Hawks. He arrived in 2016 after one JUCO season at Prince George’s Community College.

Maryland Eastern Shore will face Florida A&M in the first round of the MEAC Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida Wednesday (May 16).
