NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its 2014 all-conference teams on Wednesday and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore had two players named to the first team. Seniors Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) and Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) were each named to the All-MEAC First Team after solidifying two of the top three outfield spots.

The award is the seventh of the season for Bull, who is fourth in the MEAC in hits (65) and second on UMES in batting average (.340). Earlier this season, the senior carried a 25-game hit streak and had 33 straight games of reaching base safely. He was 10-for-10 over a four-game stretch before being named NCAA Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on April 14.

Bull is just five hits short of the single-season hits record at UMES with 65. The 2014 UMES Male Athlete of the Year has started and played in every game this season, while having team-highs in runs (38), doubles (12), at-bats (191) and stolen bases (12).

Campbell has now accepted four awards this year. The senior is fifth in the MEAC in batting average (.374). He leads the Hawks in RBI (36), homeruns (four), slugging percentage (.528) and on-base percentage (.464). Campbell was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) Player of the Week after he hit .591 over a six-game stretch in April.

Campbell posted a streak of 27 straight games of reaching base safely earlier this season and is nine hits shy of the single-season hits record at UMES. Campbell and Bull are each tied at No. 2 on the UMES career hits list. They are each 29 hits shy of the record with 196 hits.

Florida A&M had Bennie Robinson named MEAC Player of the Year, while Bethune-Cookman’s Montana Durapau was honored as MEAC Pitcher of the Year. N.C. Central’s Carlos Ortiz was named MEAC Rookie of the Year and Jamey Shouppe of FAMU claimed MEAC Coach of the Year. Delaware State led the way with five players selected to the All-MEAC teams.
