UMES SET TO COMPETE IN BULLDOG CLASSIC

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - UMES (0-4) flies down to Huntsville, Alabama to compete in the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Southwestern Athletic Conference member Alabama A&M. The Hawks will play in three games in this invitational, facing host Alabama A&M (2-2) on Friday at 4 p.m., Indiana State (0-3) on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and finishing with Western Illinois (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The games will be held at Joe Louis Stadium, home of the Huntsville Stars, the double-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

HAWKS PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN MEAC NORTH
Bethune-Cookman, the reigning conference champion, is predicted to win the MEAC and the MEAC Southern Division.
The divisions were formed this season after the addition of North Carolina Central and Savannah State to the MEAC. Teams will only play conference games against division opponents.
LAST TIME OUT: HAWKS FALL TO NAVY 21-1
The Hawks were defeated by Navy in a mid-week contest 21-1 to fall to 0-4 on the season. With the score 2-1 Navy, the Mids had a pair of eight-run innings in the second and fifth plus a three-run eighth to win the game in Annapolis. James Newsome increased his hitting streak to four with a double in the second, being brought home by a Franklin Armstrong RBI single. Navy starter Johnny Schoberl got the win while Zachary Saca fell to 0-2. In his first ever relief appearance, Michael Epps pitched 2.2 innings, striking out five with just one earned run allowed.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Indiana State has started the season 0-3 after falling in a road weekend series to Southeastern Louisiana. LHP Sean Manaea will pitch against UMES, getting the loss after throwing 6.2 innings with three runs, two earned, allowed with four strikeouts. Junior outfielder Robby Ort leads the Sycamores with a .400 average, with two runs and hit by pitches.
Western Illinois comes into the tournament at 1-3, playing all four games against Georgia State on the road. Senior RHP Dan Russell is scheduled for Sunday, who did not earn a decision after allowing four runs in five innings in his previous start. Junior outfielder Dan Dispensa has started the year 7-for-12 (.583) with three doubles and four doubles.
