The Hawks got on the board in the top of the second. After Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) got hit by a pitch from GW starter Danny O'Donnell (0-2), Jeffrey Fleetwood (Delmar, Del.) hit a line drive double to right-center to bring in Campbell and give UMES a 1-0 lead.

Next half-inning, Black (Elkton, Md.) went through the GW order 1-2-3 to keep the lead.

In the fourth, Fleetwood earned a one-out single to get on base. Brandon Schott (Warren, Pa.) followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. After a ground out, Joshua James (Milford, Del.) lined a single up the middle to score Fleetwood and push UMES up 2-0.

GW got its first run in the following half-inning. After a pair of singles to start the frame, Black induced a ground ball double play to get a pair of outs. Following was an Eric Kalman double, allowing Owen Beightol to score and make the score 2-1 UMES.

The Hawks got the run back in the top of the fifth. With one away, Mike Escanilla (Waldorf, Md.) hit an infield single to first, taking second on a ground out. Campbell lined a single to left, bringing in Escanilla to push UMES up 3-1.

The next inning, UMES loaded the bases with one out with a James double, Dustin Aigner (Melfa, Va.) walk and a Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) hit by pitch. Escanilla hit a fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly as James scored and gave UMES a 4-1 lead.

Black allowed just two hits in the final four innings on the mound to secure the 4-1 victory for the Hawks, the first midweek win for UMES this season. Black earned the complete game for his first win of the year, striking out three batters.

The loss went to O'Donnell, who pitched five innings with three runs and two strikeouts.

Fleetwood led the Hawks with a 3-for-5 day, scoring a run and driving in another. Aigner reached base three times in a 2-for-3 contest with a walk while James was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
