AMBLER, Pa. - Five members of the UMES starting lineup earned two hits each as the Hawks fell to Temple 8-4 on Saturday. UMES is now 0-13 while the Owls go to 5-8.

After a scoreless first by Tyler Witte (Westminster, Md.) (0-3), Temple struck in the second with an RBI triple by Connor Reilly followed by a Henry Knabe RBI ground out for an early 2-0 Owls lead.

The Owls scored two in the third off a run-scoring triple from Steve Nikorak then an Elijah Yarborough sacrifice fly, then two more in the fourth with a Nick Lustrino RBI single and another Yarborough sac fly, to build a 6-0 advantage.

Shaquille Bagwell (Atlantic, Va.) hit a one-out double in the top of the fifth off Patrick Peterson (1-1) and was pushed to third two batters later by a Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) single. James Newsome (Mechanicsville, Md.) brought home Bagwell with an infield single to pull UMES within five.

Next inning, Tre-Von Johnson (East New Market, Md.) led off with a single and stole second. Brandon Schott (Warren, Pa.) got him to third on a fly out to left. Aaron Burton (Roanoke, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Johnson and cut the deficit to four.

Temple rebuilt its lead to six with a run scored on an error in the seventh followed by a Yarborough RBI single in the eighth for an 8-2 lead.

UMES did not give up and tried to come back in the ninth. The opening two batters, Burton and Joshua James (Milford, Del.), walked. Bagwell hit an infield single to third to load the bases with no outs. Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home a run, followed by Campbell singling to left to score James to make it an 8-4 game and bring the tying run to the on deck circle. But that is as close as UMES got as a double play ended the inning next batter.

Peterson got the win for Temple with seven innings thrown, allowing two runs with four strikeouts. Ryan Kuehn finished the game, allowing two runs in the final two frames.

The loss went to Witte with 6+ innings pitched, allowing seven runs, just five earned. Zachary Saca (Elk Grove, Calif.) threw two innings in relief for UMES, allowing just one unearned run with a pair of strikeouts.

Bull, Campbell, Newsome, Johnson and Bagwell all had two hits for UMES. Johnson added three stolen bases in as many attempts and a run scored. Campbell increased his hitting streak to six games with his single in the fifth.

Reilly led the Owls with three extra base hits with a pair of runs and an RBI, while Yarborough got two hits with three RBI.

The Hawks look to leave Philadelphia with a win as they take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday at noon.
