Box Score

AMBLER, Pa. - Adrian Perez batted 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored to lead Temple to a 14-1 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team at Skip Wilson Field Wednesday.

Temple scored runs in every inning except the fourth, sixth and seventh and banged out 18 hits to improve to 5-5 on the season. UMES, which registered three hits on the day, fell to 1-12 with the loss.

Right-hander Jimmy Devine (2-0) pitched six innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run, and Tyler Horst threw the final three innings, recording four strikeouts, for his first save.

Perez hit a single, double and triple and was one of five Owls to score twice and three to collect three hits.

Tre-Von Johnson (East New Market, Md.), Luis Mena (Cape Coral Fla.) and Jeffrey Fleetwood (Delmar, Md.) registered the Hawks' hits, all singles. Bryan Chaikowsky (Bethlehem, Pa.) scored the only run for UMES on a two-out error in the sixth inning by left fielder Byron McKoy.

Temple started the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. Taylor Juran stroked a bases-loaded double to left with two outs, plating Steve Nikorak, Ryan Ferguson and McKoy.

Up, 5-0, in the third, TU added four more runs. Perez lined a triple to the gap in left-center field with one out before Ferguson lifted a sacrifice fly to left to extend the lead to 9-0.

UMES got on the board in the top of the sixth. Chaikowsky and Mena walked with two outs and McKoy misplayed a ball hit by Elliott Alston (Littleton, Colo.) to make it 10-1.

The Owls scored four more runs in the eighth on four hits and two errors for the final margin.



Right-hander Tyler Witte (Westminster, Md.) started and took the loss for UMES in three innings. Witte (0-2). He allowed nine runs - all earned - on 10 hits and three walks. He struck out three.

UMES is back in action next Tuesday in a doubleheader at Hawks Stadium against Mount Saint Mary's. First pitch is slated for noon.
