HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - After the Hawks an early 12-run deficit after the first two innings, the UMES bullpen locked down Indiana State in the next six frames with just one run allowed in that time, but the Maroon and Grey could not close the gap and fell 17-2 in the second game of the Bulldog Classic at Joe Louis Stadium. UMES falls to 0-6 on the season while Indiana State goes to 2-3.

The Sycamores brought 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first, combining four hits and four walks for seven runs.

UMES tried to chip away at the deficit in the next half-inning, starting with Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) hitting a one-out double. James Newsome (Mechanicsville, Md.) followed with a double, increasing his hit streak to six games and scoring Campbell to pull within six 7-1.

Indiana State struck again in the top of the second against Tyler Witte (Westminster, Md.) (0-2), scoring six runs off seven hits to get a 13-1 advantage over UMES. Witte finished with 1.2 innings thrown, allowing 13 runs.

Zachary Saca (Elk Grove, Calif.) came in during the second and pitched through the end of the sixth, allowing just one run, an unearned run in the fourth, in 4.1 innings with a strikeout.

On the other end of the fourth, two batters after a Newsome double, Franklin Armstrong (Trenton, N.J.) drove the Hawks third baseman home with an RBI single, putting the score at 14-2.

The bullpen did its part, with Devin Repine (Salisbury, Md.) and Sean Woods (Clinton, Md.) throwing a scoreless seventh and eighth respectively.

UMES could not get closer, as the Sycamores scored three in the ninth to secure a 17-2 victory.

Newsome led the Hawks with a 2-for-3 day, including a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Armstrong has driven in a run the last three games, going 1-for-4 today. Brady Bassford (Olney, Md.) earned his first hit as a Hawk with an infield single in the 9th.

ISU starter Sean Manaea (2-0) got the victory with six innings thrown, allowing two runs with 10 strikeouts. Landon Curry went 3-for-6 from the leadoff spot, scoring four runs, while Jeremy Lucas went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
