"This program is a great opportunity for the community and the Eastern Shore that we call home, to nominate and recognize those that have made a difference," said G. Stan Bradley, Associate Director of Athletics. "We want to honor these individuals and celebrate their hard work and passion by presenting them with this award at the final home basketball game of the season. It's our way of showing our appreciation for what they do."

There are no specific criteria for the award, only that the person has made a contribution to the Eastern Shore and/or the surrounding community. Nominees must be able to attend the game on March, 5 to receive the award.

UMES' department of athletics is partnering with the Office of Outreach and Strategic Initiatives on campus to get the message out to the community, chambers of commerce, civic organizations and others to identify a strong pool of nominees for the award.
