PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — A productive 2017 cross country season will all be put on the line this Saturday (Oct. 28) as Maryland Eastern Shore makes one more trip to Smyrna, Delaware for the annual running of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championships.

The women’s 5K will take place at 9:45 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. men’s 8K. All events will be run at the Delaware State Outreach and Research Center where the Hawks have already performed in four regular season meets.

Saturday provides an opportunity for the men to claim their fourth straight MEAC title while the women will look to get over the hump after a pair of runner-up efforts the past two years. The men had to replace several athletes due to graduation, but with a good crop of newcomers managed to win four meets out of six. The women finished the regular season with five second place finishes.

Individually, women’s sophomore Sharon Jerop (Eldoret, Kenya) led the way with three victories at the Eastern Shore Lid-Lifter, DSU Farm Run and DSU Pre-Conference. On the men’s side, sophomore John Akakeya (Staten Island, New York) won his first meet as a Hawk at the Lid-Lifter and senior Oussama Chouati (Manresa, Spain) earned his first collegiate win at the DSU Pre-Conference.
