PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week were named today and sophomore Victoria Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) and senior Codjo Gbedo (New Carrollton, Md.) were selected as the two honorees for the week of September 17.  This is the first time either student-athlete has been awarded with this distinction in their athletic careers.

Williams accepts the award after she earned double digit kills in all four matches this weekend. The senior hit .346 altogether and finished with 59 kills and 10 blocks. She earned a career-high 19 kills against North Texas, before she had 18 kills and six blocks in UMES’ 3-2 victory over Troy. The sophomore concluded her trip to Alabama with a .615 hitting percentage against Jackson State. She had 10 kills and a pair of blocks in the game.

Gbedo led the men’s cross country team to a seventh place finish at this past weekend’s Cappy Anderson Invitational in Princess Anne. The senior was the highest finisher for UMES on the day, as he ran a 29:56.47 in the men’s 8k race. He concluded the race with a 20th place finish.
