Final Stats

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's cross country team hosted their second meet of the season Saturday with the Cappy Anderson Invitational.

The team placed sixth out of nine teams with 137 points and an average team time of 21:15.13 in the five-kilometer race.

Princeton University placed first overall with 20 points and an average time of 17:48.65. Penn State had an average time of 17:52.45 and 37 points, which was good for second place. The University of Maryland Baltimore County came in third with 75 points and an average time of 18:54.83. Fourth place went to Hampton University with 116 points and an average time of 20:25.58.

The University of Pittsburgh came in fifth place with 122 points and an average time of 20:24.58. Seventh place went to Howard University with 159 points and a 21:55.57 average time. Morgan State University placed eighth with 182 points and an average time of 23:29.76 while ninth place went to Bowie State University with 187 points and an average time of 22:50.80.

Senior Celia Whyte (Manchester, Jamaica) finished 28th overall and first for UMES with a time of 20:04.04. Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Paris, France) and junior Eunice Jones (Lanham, Md.) followed right behind Whyte for 29th and 30th places with respective times of 20:10.45 and 20:11.42.

Sophomore Jessica Abrantes (Scotch Plains, N.Y.) ran a time of 22:16.25, which was good for 51st overall. Emalie Ducades and freshman Kenesha Abrams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came in 58th and 59th places with times of 23:33.49 and 23:38.62, respectively. The next UMES finisher was freshman Jennell Wade (White Plains, Md.) in 65th place with a time of 24:52.60. Sophomore Monique Hawkins (Randallstown, Md.) and freshman Courtney Gray (Frederick, Md.) came in 72nd and 73rd places with respective times of 27:55.10 and 28:56.48.



The women have off next weekend and are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Mason Invitational, held in Centreville, Va.
