PRINCESS ANNE, Md.  - Senior Lenora Guion-Firmin (La Trinite, Martinique) and junior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of May 13. This is third time that each student-athlete has been presented with the award this season.

Veverka led the golf team to an eighth-place finish at the PGM Minority Collegiate Golf Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He used an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament with a 218. His tally helped him secure a fifth-place overall finish amongst Division I scoring schools. Veverka began the tournament with consecutive rounds of 73 before his fantastic round on the last day. The junior's effort at the event proved to be the finest of his golf career at UMES.

Guion-Firmin provided excellent results for the women's track and field team at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Princeton, N.J. this past weekend. The senior led the squad to a second-place finish out of 54 schools at the event after she won two events. She began with a 23.38 time to win the 200m, before she concluded her work with a first-place finish of 52.13 in the 400m.
