Princess Anne, Md. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track and Field team will head to Greensboro, North Carolina in search of gold medal finishes. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place May 3-5, with UMES hoping to win the conference championships. Competition begins at 1 PM on Thursday at Irwin Belk Track.

The Hawks will compete against the 12 other teams that make up the MEAC at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A & T. It will be just the second time this season UMES has competed in North Carolina. The Hawks opened the season at Wake Forest University.

UMES' Andre Walsh has the fifth best 100-meter dash time in the MEAC with his time of 10.46 seconds. Walsh's times is a UMES record, which he set in the Morgan State Legacy Meet (April 21). He has the sixth best time in the 200-meter dash in the conference with his 21.00 seconds.

Teammates Zavior Brown and Basil Melek are both ranked sixth in the MEAC with their times of 1:51.79 and 9:30.17 in the 800-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Walsh, Ackeem Smith, Damian Miles and Nyls Nubret have fourth best 4x100-meter relay time with a 40.52. The relay team's time won them the IC4A Championship during the Penn Relays.

On the women's side, Lenora Guion-Firmin and Cynthia Anais each hold the top spot in two events. Guion-Firmin boasts the fastest 200-meter dash time with a 23.49, which she set in the Morgan State meet. She also holds the fastest time of 52.74 which she ran in the 400-meter dash of the same event.



Anais holds the top position in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. She ran a 2:05.15 in the 800, while posting a 4:28.83 in the 1500. Her time in the 1,500-meter run is 13 minutes faster than the second place time.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Guion-Firmin, Anais, Emilie Ducados and Annis Mars are second in the MEAC with a time of 3:39.59, which is two seconds off of first place.

Vanessa Henry and Lexia Robinson are numbers one and two in the shot put rankings. Henry has the best distance of 16.48 meters, while Robinson has a 14.69-meter best.
