PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Outdoor Track and Field team concluded its conference season Saturday with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships. The Hawks women's team placed second, scoring 106 points, while the men took fourth with 73 points scored.

The Hawks Rico Taylor took second place in the high jump, leading to a finals height of 2.14 meters. Taylor finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.64 seconds.

Teammate Owen Cain finished with a 6.74-meter leap in the long jump for a Hawks top 10 finish in the event. Cain took second in the triple jump, leaping to a 15.20-meter finish.

With his 45.54-meter toss, Dillon Simon finished fifth in the discus for the Hawks. Simon won silver in the shot put with his toss of 16.12 meters. Vanessa Henry and Lexia Robinson finished first and third place, respectively, in the shot put. Henry won gold with her toss of 15.92 meters, while Robinson threw a 14.69-meter top three finish.

Lenora Guion-Firmin posted second place finishes in the 200 and 400-meter dashes for the Hawks. She finished with a time of 23.74 in the 200 and 52.65 in the 400 dash finals. Ackeem Smith took second place with a time of 13.91 in the 110-meter hurdles, while teammate Andre Walsh finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 52.54.



Guion-Firmin, Melina Gallas, Jennell Wade and Jasmine Benbow finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay. The team posted a 46.28 finals time for the Hawks. The men's team of Walsh, Taylor, Damian Miles and Marcus Wallace finished in first place with their time of 39.86.

Guion-Firmin and Gallas teamed with Emilie Ducados and Eunice Jones to finish third place in the 4x400-meter relay. The Hawks team finished with a 3:40.88 in the relay.

Cynthia Anais, Ducados and Jones finished first, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Anais set the UMES record earlier in the season, and posted a MEAC record with her time of 2:05.97. Anais beat the previous record by just under three minutes. She would also post a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run. Her time of 4:33.27 set a MEAC record in 2011, while finishing with a 4:36.49 in 2012.

Ducados and Jones finished with a 2:08.51 and 2:09.39, respectively. Zavior Brown finished third place in the men's 800-meter run in a time of 1:50.07.

UMES will travel to the IC4A/ECAC Championships May 11-13 before competing in the preliminary round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association May 25-26.
