Princess Anne, Md. --Six University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track and Field records were broken by its student-athletes in the Hawks recent meet. Rico Taylor, Owen Cain, Lenora Guion-Firmin, Geranda Williams and Cynthia Anais and Vanessa Henry each broke UMES records in the George Mason Invitational April 14 in Fairfax, Virginia.

Taylor marked a new height with his 2.13-meter leap in the high jump. His jump also earned him gold, finishing first place in the event. Cain finished third in the triple jump, while breaking the record in the event for UMES. He finished with a 15.57-meter distance in the event.

Williams also broke the triple jump record on the women's side, finishing fourth with a leap of 12.69 meters. Williams also placed fourth in the long jump for the Hawks with a distance of 5.61 meters.

Guion-Firmin and Anais broke records in the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively, for UMES. Guion-Firmin posted her best time of the season with a time of 23.51 while finishing second in the event. Anais finished first place while posting a time of 2:05.15 in the 800.

On the men's side, Ackeem Smith finished along with Jermol Dixin the top five of the 110-meter hurdles prelims. Smith finished third in the finals with a time of 14.13. Dix posted a 14.

Andre Walsh finished the 400-meter hurdles in second place with a time of 51.35. Teammate Zavior Brownposted a second place finish in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:49.53 for the Hawks.

Both the men's 4x100-meter relay and women's 4x400-meter relay teams finish second in George Mason Invitational. The men's team of Nyls Nubret, Taylor, Smith and Walsh finished in a time of 40.68.

The UMES women's team of Emilie Ducados, Annis Mars, Anais and Guion-Firmin took second place in a time of 3:40.52.

Vanessa Henry and Dillon Simoneach had top five finishes in field events. Henry took first place and broke a UMES record with a 16.48-meter toss in the shot put. Simon took fourth in the discus with a 46.66-meter finish.

UMES will compete in the Morgan (State) Legacy meet April 21 before heading to the Penn Relays April 26-28.
