Princess Anne, Md. -- Freshman Dillon Simon took first place for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the shot put at the Towson Invitational Saturday. Simon's finish was one of several first place and top five finishes for the Hawks. Senior Vanessa Henry also placed first for the women in the same event.

Simon tossed a 16.83-meter shot put, his longest to date, which ranks him 30th in the country. He is one of only five freshmen in the country to be ranked that high. Simon also finished third in the discus, placing with a throw of 46.11 meters.

Teammates Jermol Dix and Rico Taylor also had top five finishes in the field events. Dix had the Hawks best finish coming in fifth with a throw of 39.46 meters in the javelin. Taylor placed first in the high jump with his leap of 1.88 meters. Taylor is ranked 15th in the country as reported by the Track & Field Results Reporting System.

Ackeem Smith finished first in the 110-meter hurdles, sprinting to a 14.82-second finish. Teammate Zavior Brown took second place in the 400m dash in 48.26 seconds. Brown is currently first in the country in TFRRS standings with his season's best time of 14.10 seconds which he set in the Wake Forest Open.

Nyls Nubret placed third in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.10 seconds. Nubret has run in the 100 and 200-meter dash events this season, marking his best times as 10.86 and 22.09, respectively.

On the women's side, two times UMES finished first and second place in an event. Henry and Lexia Robinson took first and second, respectively, in the shot put. Henry tossed a 15.63-meter shot put, while Robinson finished with her longest distance being 14.67 meters. The pair reversed finishes in the discus.



Robinson took third place with a throw of 40.77 meters, and Henry finished fifth with her toss of 39.54 meters.

In the 400-meter dash, Cynthia Anais and Emilie Ducados finished first and second, respectively. Anais ran a speedy 56.24, while Ducados was on her heels finishing in 56.63. Annis Mars rounded out the top five in the 400-meter dash finishing fifth in 57.85.

Anais, Ducados and Mars teamed with Melina Gallas to place first in the 4x400-meter relay, earning a best time of 3:48.33.

UMES will compete in the Penn Invitational (April 7) and Mason Spring Invitational (April 14) before competing in the well-known Penn Relays (April 26-28) later this month.
