PRINCESS ANNE, MD. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawk track and field team will kick off its indoor track season Tuesday evening at the Navy Lid-Lifter Invitational in Annapolis, Md. at the United States Naval Academy. Sixteen track athletes will travel to the competition to compete in a variety of events, from distance runs to field events.

The event, slated to begin at 5pm, will begin with the long jump and high jump, followed by a distance run and pole vault. Afterwards, the ladies will compete in sprints, followed with the shot put and the mile run. Mid-distance runs will follow, and the event will conclude with relays. The one-day Invitational will conclude at approximately 8pm.

The Lady Hawks roster features three seniors, led by three-year letter winner and sprinter Latasha Moore (Silver Spring, Md.). Four juniors will be on the roster, including mid-distance runner Margaret Wilmot-Francis (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and four sophomores including jumper Romeika Jackson (Fort Washington, Md.). The largest class of athletes, however, is the incoming freshman class, who will feature six athletes, including distance runner Rachel Halmon (Waldorf, Md.). Ten track athletes competed this past fall in the cross country season, where the Lady Hawks finished sixth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

At the Invitational, the Lady Hawks will face off against colleges from Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, including Delaware State, Lincoln University, Mount St. Mary’s, Johns Hopkins, McDaniel, Bowie State, Towson, and host Navy.

As for the men’s track team, their first competition will be on Friday, when UMES will host the Coach O College Invitational at the Hytche Center. That meet is slated to start at 1pm.
