Anais set the MEAC record with a 4:59.33 finish in the 1,600m run

Feb. 19, 2012

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Senior Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) and sophomore Owen Cain (Montgomery Village, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 19. This is the first time that Cain has been honored, while Anais receives the award for the third time of the 2011-12 year.

Anais won three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles this past weekend as the senior received top honors in the 3,000m run, 1,6000m run and 800m run. All of her performances were fantastic, but it was her effort in the one-mile that stole the show. Her finish in the one-mile saw her set a new MEAC Indoor Track record, as she finished in 4:59.33.

The senior continued with a first-place time of 2:08.37 in the 800m. Her efforts in the event were capped with her third top honor, when she won the 3,000m with a time of 10:16.0. She played a huge part in the women’s second-place finish (121 points) at the championships.

Cain picks up his first PRMC UMES Athlete of the Week honor behind a fantastic MEAC Championship performance. The 5’10 jumper notched two second-place finishes in the long-jump and the high-jump. In the long-jump, Cain finished with a 6.86m jump, before he registered a 15.29m jump in the triple-jump.

His performances were capped in the event when he placed fourth in the high-jump (2.01m). The sophomore led the men’s team to a second-place finish (93.50 points) at the championships.

The teams will take a week off before the Hawks gear up for the IC4A and ECAC meet on March 3-4 in Boston, Mass.
