PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — Maryland Eastern Shore’s track & field squad will make the annual trek to Landover, Maryland this weekend for the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship. The three-day event will take place at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.

Events begin at 3 p.m. Thursday and will run through Saturday. Friday’s schedule starts at 9 a.m. while Saturday begins at 9:30 a.m., with coverage live on ESPN3 starting at one in the afternoon. Tickets are $5 per day and live stats are provided for the weekend.

21 athletes from The Shore will travel to Landover for the meet, including notable performers like freshman Jessica Roney (Windsor Mill, Maryland) in the women’s pentathlon, senior Donovan Mundy (Jacksonville, Florida) in the men’s 800, and senior Tanise Edwards (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) in the jumping events.

Thursday will be the meet’s kickoff, featuring the 5000 meter run, the 200 meter dash and the long jump. The Hawks plan to compete in nearly every event opening night. Multis pick up on Friday, followed by dash preliminaries and throwing events. Day two will wrap up with the distance medley relay. Field events start Saturday’s final with the running finals covered on ESPN3 during the afternoon.

The Hawks have won four indoor track titles in their history. The last came in 2008, when the women were named co-champions along with Hampton. For the men a title would be their first since 1997, when they won two in a row.

In 2017, the men finished MEAC’s in fourth place, with the women capturing sixth. Khalil Rmidi Kinini earned his third straight Most Outstanding Runner award, extending Maryland Eastern Shore’s streak of a Most Outstanding Men’s Performer to six straight championships.
