PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Univeristy of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior Dillon Simon earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) honor of Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the conference today. This is the first time Simon has been awarded this honor, which will go along with his four UMES Athlete of the Week nominations.

Dillon competed in the shot put and the weight throw during last Saturday’s Navy Invitational at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis. In the weight throw, he set the school record for the fourth time this season, shattering his own previous mark with a distance of 19.61 meters. As for the shot put, Dillon fell just shy of breaking the school record of 18.72 set by Kimani Korton in 2007, but his mark of 18.64 meters broke the Brown Field House record of 18.31 meters set in 2012.

Over the course of the season, Simon has earned six top finishes overall, with three victories in the shot put and three victories in the weight throw. He also holds two second place finishes as well. Dillon has also met qualification standards for the IC4A, which will hold championships in Boston this March.

Dillon and the rest of his track teammates travel to New York City for the Columbia Meet this Saturday.
