PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — Maryland Eastern Shore’s track & field squad won all three relay events during day one of the Eastern Shore Invite on Friday (Feb. 2) at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Both 4x200 teams emerged victorious, with the women’s quartet of sophomore Summer Fields (Baltimore, Maryland), senior Luan Gabriel (Roseau, Dominica), and freshmen Ayanna Lynn (Rockville, Maryland) and Christina Cropper (Wilmington, Delaware) completing the race in 1:44.68. The men’s team ran the event in 1:30.75, led by junior Joshua Dacres (Yorktown Heights, New York). Freshmen Janoi Brown (Randallstown, Maryland) and Timothy Brice (Woodstock, Maryland) shared the middle portion, with sophomore Isaiah Smith (Abington, Pennsylvania) running anchor.

The women’s distance medley finished their winning race in 13:48.32, using a team of senior Lenneisha Gilbert (Miami, Florida), freshman Jessica Roney (Windsor Mill, Maryland) and sophomores Amirah Jones (Suffolk, Virginia) and Neus Quinonero (Valencia, Spain).

A pair of Hawks brought home individual wins as well. Roney won the women’s pentathlon with 3,102 points scored, which qualifies her to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship. Sophomore Tamunoibi Dabipi (Salisbury, Maryland) finished in first for the men’s weight throw, claiming a new personal mark of 16.41 meters.

Joining Roney at MEAC’s will be sophomore Sharon Jerop (Eldoret, Kenya), thanks to her time of 19:04.59 in the 5K. Jerop earned her second individual MEAC qualification of the winter.

The meet picks up again at 10 a.m. Saturday with the heptathlon finish and field events. Running events begin at noon. Admission is free and open to the public.
