LaShawn Nastvogel and Kevin Brown join UMES athletics department
LaShawn Nastovgel joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletics department in July 2012 as the strength and conditioning coach.
Nastovgel is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She is certified in CPR/AED and as a Les Mills Body Pump Instructor. In May 2013, she earned her pro card in natural bodybuilding.
Prior to joining UMES, Nastovgel served as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at World Gym, earning runner-up in Metropolitan Magazine Personal Trainer of the Year. She also served as an adjunct instructor in the UMES and Salisbury University exercise science departments.
She competes in marathon running in her spare time, having completed the Virginia Beach Hall Marathon, Kentucky Derby Half Marathon, Nashville Country Music Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon and winning the YMCA Pump & Run 5K in November 2008, 2009 and 2010. LaShawn has a passion for training and lifting as she competes in physique competitions.
She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in human nutrition and foods and exercise, later earning her Master's in 2008 in health promotion and education. She served as a graduate assistant at her alma mater from August 2006 to May 2008, developing and implementing strength and conditioning routines for various sports. In February 2008, she finished third in the Virginia Tech Bench Press Competition.
Nastvogel currently lives in Fruitland, Maryland. LaShawn and her family welcomed a new baby boy, Noah.
