PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Sophomore Kyree Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Ashleigh Claybrooks (Manassas, Va.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 10. This is the first honor of the year for either student-athlete.

Jones provided two outstanding lines for the men’s basketball this past week. The sophomore began the week with a team-high 24 points and three assists in the Hawks’ 100-68 loss at Maryland. He shot 9-of-17 from the floor and brought down three rebounds in a team-high 32 minutes. His strong play continued into UMES’ second game of the week, when he scored a game-high 25 points in a 92-60 loss at Cincinnati. For the week, Jones tallied 49 points and seven assists in 71 minutes.

Claybrooks was the most consistent force for the women’s basketball team this past week. She was a big part of the Hawks’ 60-48 victory over Towson, where she scored nine points and had three steals in 21 minutes. She chipped in with a 3-for-4 effort from the free-throw line and also had two offensive boards. The freshman was 5-for-13 for 11 points and had nine rebounds in UMES’ 62-58 loss at Mount St. Mary’s earlier in the week. She also had one block and five offensive rebounds. For the week, she totaled 20 points and 11 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.
