Maryland Eastern Shore announces new apparel deal with Nike
July 14, 2016

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland -

After wearing Russell Athletic gear for the past 12 seasons, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will be wearing new apparel in the 2016-2017 season. As part of a partnership with 10 of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) 13 schools, Nike will now be the official apparel, accessory, equipment and shoe provider for the Hawks.

The new deal, in addition to an existing shoe deal for all 13 league schools, that took effect in September of 2005, will outfit the maroon and grey exclusively in Nike apparel. It runs through August 31, 2020, the same year the existing shoe deal will expire.

The upcoming season will be a transition year as schools take the year to phase out past uniforms and gear and slowly integrate Nike to head to toe coverage starting in the 2017-18 season.

“We are excited to partner with the world’s leader in athletic apparel,” said Director of Athletics Keith Davidson. “Our thanks go out to MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas who was able to negotiate this deal for our conference. It is really a great opportunity and will further enhance the Maryland Eastern Shore and MEAC brands.”

The apparel, accessory and equipment agreement will begin Sept. 1, 2016 for 10 member institutions, Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central, Savannah State, South Carolina State and the MEAC Office.

“We are elated to expand our partnership with Nike, the worldwide leader in athletic footwear, apparel and accessories,” Thomas said. “We appreciate NIKE’s over fifteen-year investment with the MEAC and recognizing the value of our brand.”

“Both Nike and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference have a rich, storied history and progressive mindset,” said Kit Morris Nike Senior Director of Sports Marketing. “The continuation of this partnership builds on that legacy to drive the future of student-athletes at these historic institutions.”

“This deal will benefit all of our 15 sports and allow coaches to properly outfit all of their student-athletes while providing them with a quality product, on par with or better than any team they compete against,” added Davidson.

As a continued effort to develop the league’s student-athletes, Nike will also continue to provide summer internships to deserving MEAC student-athletes at the NIKE World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. and provide two (2) graduate scholarships annually for MEAC student-athletes attending graduate school.
