PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Celia Whyte (Manchester, Jamaica) and junior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletes of the Week for the period ending May 31.

Whyte finished 12th in the 800 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. last weekend. She ran 2:10.75 to lead four Lady Hawks in the event.

Whyte also ran the opening leg on UMES' 4x400 relay, pacing the squad to a time of 3:41.12, good for 11th place.

Whyte may still have a shot to advance to the NCAA Championship, June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark. as Student-athletes who place in the top five in their event earn automatic bids, while the sixth-12th place finishers will be pooled for an at-large bid to be announced on Tuesday.

Fothergill ran the third fastest time in the 400-meter prelims (45.94) and followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the final with a time of 45.98. He also ran the anchor in the Hawks' 4x100, which crossed in 11th place in a time of 40.86. Fothergill will find out Tuesday if he is headed to nationals.
