PRINCESS ANNE, Md.  - Senior Tre-Von Johnson (E. New Market, Md.) and freshman J.P. Black (Elkton, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of May 20. This is first time that either student-athlete has recieved the award and it is also the first time this year that the baseball team has swept the distinction.

The award is the second of the week for Johnson, who was recently named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team following his performance at the conference tournament. The UMES designated hitter batted .625 (5-for-8) for the Hawks in the two games, reaching base six times in nine plate appearances. He was the only UMES player post multi-hits against Savannah State, going 3-for-4 in the game.

Black was fantastic in UMES' opening game of the tournament against Savannah State, where he went toe-to-toe with the MEAC Pitcher of the Year. Despite being saddled with the loss, Black was thoroughly impressive as he went seven innings and allowed just two runs (one earned). He also fanned two Tiger hitters in the game.
