PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball programs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are offering local youth a chance to hone their skills under the direction of first class coaching staffs. The camps range between three and five days of expert instruction and include a free T-shirt for campers.

The High Peaks Specialized Volleyball Camp is directed by UMES Head Coach Don Metil. Heading into his third year, Metil has had two undefeated Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference seasons (20-0), held one of the nation's longest win streaks (22 straight victories), and saw his team become the 2007 NCAA Division I Statistical Champions for service aces per game.

Metil is a Certified Athletic Trainer who has coached two MEAC Players of the Year, a MEAC Rookie of the Year, five First Team All-Conference selections, three All-Tournament MVP's and 18 All-Tournament selections.

The High Peaks program incorporates technology and insight from bio-mechanics, performance nutrition, training component combinations (weights, plyo's, sport-specific skills), laws of motor learning and the whole teaching method with thousands of game-like repetitions coupled with positive feedback. The camp is for ages 14-18 and is scheduled to run June15-18.

Boys ages 6-16 can register for the High Flying Hawks Boys Basketball Camp. Directed by men's basketball Head Coach Frankie Allen, the camp is set for June 22-26 in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

This camp is designed to provide each camper with a fun filled and enjoyable experience while learning the proper fundamentals of the game of basketball. Each camper will be placed on teams within their own age group and receive individual evaluation reports at the conclusion of camp.

Allen just completed his first season as head coach of the Fighting Hawks. He has been a coach at the college level for 33 years, 19 as a head coach, including previous stints at Virginia Tech, Tennessee State, Howard, Radford and UMBC.
