Petra Kubesova (pitcured) shattered the MEAC record with a time of 9:57.64 in the 3,000m

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Freshman Petra Kubesova (Prague, Czech Republic) and senior Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been name the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of February 18. This is the third time that these student-athletes have received the award this year.

Kubesova was brilliant at the MEAC Indoor Track Championships this past weekend. She helped bring in 38 points as she won three events and placed third in another. She won the 5,000m with a time of 17:02.49 and finished nearly a minute faster than the rest of the field. Kubesova then went on to break the MEAC record in the 3,000m with a 9:57.64 finish. She then placed third in the mile in 5:06.26 and was the anchor leg of the distance medley team, where the squad placed first in 11:59.31. For her efforts, she was honored as the Most Outstanding Performer.

Walsh enjoyed a successful MEAC Indoor Track Championship as well. The St. Catherine, Jamaica native received 20 points altogether as he picked up two second-place finishes and one third. He was second in the 200m with a time of 21.54 and was also the third leg of the 4x400m team that received runner-up honors with a finish of 3:18.50. Walsh also received six points with a 6.86 finish in the 60m.
